Once the washer door is closed the washer can begin operating.
Ge top load washer door locked wont open. The lock mechanism consists of some switches and normally a lock unlock solenoid or wax motor solenoid. If the door lock is damaged or does not latch properly replace it. Raise the lid at least 2 inches and make sure it closes each time. For machines with a lid instead lift the main top if the lock is still on or if you can t use a manual release.
The door lock also known as the interlock is a safety mechanism used on front load washing machines and on some top load washers that prevents the door or lid from being opened while the machine is in operation. Pull the lower panel out at the bottom and remove it. To manually unlock the door on this washer you first unplug the washer from the wall outlet and then remove the lower access panel. You can unlock the unit by removing the three screws at the bottom front of the unit.
It is typically attached to the door with one or two screws and is easily changed. You ll need to do this within a 12 second period. Door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Unplug the washer for a minute to reset.
Pull down on it and the door will open. The door should unlock. The door strike or hook is normally made of rigid plastic and can break with normal use and abuse or if someone has attempted to open the door with force while the lock is engaged. To reset washing machines that use the ge hydrowave system start by unplugging the washer for one minute. If the door hook on your washer shows any signs of wear or distortion then it should be replaced. Make sure the washer is paused press start pause. See the image below for how to do this.
During spin this can take up to 3 minutes for the basket to stop spinning and allow you to open the lid. If the door lock is defective the washer door will not latch properly. Plug the washing machine back in and then within 30 seconds quickly open and close the lid six times. With the lower access panel removed and the washer unplugged reach up to the door lock and feel for a round release ring and pull it down. Reach up inside of the unit near where the door lock is and you will feel a small tab at the bottom of the lock assembly.
My 2016 ge top load washer walked resulting in it unplugging. Inspect the door lock for damage. I hadn t realized that so had pried back the lid lock to open the lid and remove the clothes then realized it was unplugged.
